Campylobacter After hearing of a recent outbreak of campylobacter in the news, I thought it would be beneficial to explain what campylobacter is, how it is caught and how to avoid it. According to the Food Standards Agency, the bacteria could be responsible for more than 280,000 cases of food poisoning per year. The agency state that although still analysing, estimates have shown that campylobacter has caused around 100 deaths a year. Campylobacter is an extremely dangerous, but common bacteria found in raw meat especially poultry.
