Manual Handling Awareness

Introduction

During the Manual Handling Awareness training course, learners will acquire the key principles of manual handling and how to apply these to their workplace. They will also practice these range of techniques, ensuring that they leave the course confident and proficient in moving and handling.


Learning outcomes

Understand the reasons for safe manual handling

Understand how manual handling risk assessments contribute to improving health and safety

Understand the principles, types of equipment and testing requirements associated with manual handling safety

Be able to apply safe manual handling principles


Assessment
Logic has devised assessment tools to make sure learners gain the required knowledge, skills and understanding.


Practical assessments – observed by the trainer throughout the course, with the results of each learning outcome recorded on the practical assessment paperwork. There are 3 practical assessments for this qualification that can be incorporated:

Solo Manual Handling

Team Manual Handling

Using Equipment


Formative assessments – a range of informal assessment procedures employed by the trainer/assessor during the learning process to measure each learner’s knowledge, skills and understanding related to the assessment criteria.


Entry requirements
Learners must be at least 14 years old on the first day of the training. There are no other formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent.


Other course requirements
Due to the practical nature of this course, learners should wear appropriate clothing and footwear, e.g. trousers and flat footwear.


If the course is required to be bespoke for your work environment it is recommended that the course be held at your workplace to be able to practice the manual handling techniques relevant to your workforce.
