Introduction

This one-day refresher course is for delegates who have previously passed the two-day Site supervision safety training scheme (SSSTS) course and can provide proof of successful attendance.


It aims to bring health and safety knowledge up to date, as well as giving a thorough overview of the legislative changes and their impact in the workplace.


The course includes a wide range of topics which have been affected by the changes to procedures built upon the material in the original course.


Aims:

To help site supervisors to:

  • supervise health and safety on site in accordance with current legal provisions and within the context of their role

  • develop an understanding of responsibility and accountability for site health, safety and welfare of workers on site

  • recognise that a safe site is efficient, economical, productive and environmentally friendly.


Course structure:
Module 1

  2. Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM)

  3. Health and safety management systems

  4. Risk assessments and method statements

  5. Statutory inspections and checks

  6. Reporting accidents, injuries and ill health

  7. Leadership and worker engagement

  1. Health and welfare of the workforce

  2. First aid and emergency procedures

  3. Hazardous substances

  4. Asbestos

  5. Dust and fumes

  6. Noise and vibration

  7. Manual handling


Module 3

  1. Site set up and security

  2. Fire prevention and control

  3. Electricity

  4. Plant and work equipment

  5. Lifting operations and lifting equipment


Module 4

  1. Working at height

  2. Excavations

  3. Underground and overhead services

  4. Confined spaces

  5. Temporary works


Module 5

  1. Environmental awareness

Assessment:

Assessment will be by an exam paper at the end of the course.


Exam paper:

The examination paper is compulsory and consists of 25 questions, selected by CITB, covering all aspects of the course.


The paper consists of 22 multiple choice questions and 3 short written questions. There are 4 safety critical questions in each exam paper. The delegate must get all 4 of these questions correct to pass the exam.


The exam pass mark is 80% (24 out of 30).
