Falls from height are one of the biggest causes of workplace fatalities and major injuries. Common causes are falls from ladders and through fragile roofs. Work at height means work in any place where, if there were no precautions in place, a person could fall a distance liable to cause personal injury.


For example you are working at height if you: are working on a ladder or a flat roof; could fall through a fragile surface; could fall into an opening in a floor or a hole in the ground. Take a sensible approach when considering precautions for work at height. There may be some low-risk situations where common sense tells you no particular precautions are necessary and the law recognises this.

Learning outcomes:
Upon completion of the course, learners will know how to:

Implement strategies to avoid having to work at height if possible
Prevent falls from height
Minimise the consequences of a fall from height
Comply with personal legal duties
Select the most appropriate access and working equipment for the task.

Who the course is for:
This awareness course is suitable for all people who are required to work at height. This course provides a basic awareness of the risks from working at height, as well as practical ways to prevent falls from height.

Chris has been part of the Logic team since 2016, progressing from his starting role as an Operations Co-ordinator, to his current role. Chris comes from an Outdoors First Aid and Warehousing background. Chris is responsible for undertaking site visits, training, CDM, and consultancy.


Further career development has seen Chris complete his Level 3 EATs qualification and his NCRQ Health and Safety Qualification. He is currently working towards completing his NVQ Level 6 in Occupational H&S.

Matt Bloomfield

Health and Safety Consultant

Matt has been part of the Logic team since 2008, progressing from his starting role as a technical administrator, to his current role. Matt comes from a multi-disciplined background, and is a strong and dedicated member of the Logic team. Matt is responsible for undertaking the majority of Logic Consult’s asbestos surveys and manages our extensive database.


Further career development has seen Matt complete his NEBOSH General Certificate and do Level 3 EATs qualification making Matt a valuable member of the Logic training team. Matt has just commenced his NVQ Level 5 in Occupational Health and Safety.

Brian Parish

Managing Director & Consultant

Having started his career as a safety adviser with SSC Ltd where he worked his way up to Senior Safety Manager, Brian has also worked in safety management for DJ Construction (Group Safety Manager), Balfour Beatty (Capital Projects Safety Manager) and BCJV (Project Safety Manager).


He has also worked with AMEC, Tarmac, Laing Construction, CEGB and Delta Engineering). With over 20 years’ experience working with health, safety and environment issues in the construction industry, Brian founded Logic in 2001.


His expertise has led to many significant achievements with the industry including winning the Building Industry’s Integrated Project Safety Award on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions in 2004 and 2005.
