Introduction
The SMSTS training course is designed for site managers, agents and persons who are, or about to be, responsible for planning, organising, monitoring, controlling and administering groups of staff.

The course covers all relevant legislation and other aspects which affect safe working in the building, construction and civil engineering industries. It highlights the need for risk assessment in the workplace, the implementation of the necessary control measures, and adequate communication to sustain a health and safety culture among the workforce.

Aims:

To help site managers to:

  • manage health and safety on site in accordance with current legal provisions, and within the context of their management

  • develop an understanding of responsibility and accountability for site health, safety and welfare

  • recognise that a safe site is efficient, economical and productive

Objectives:

At the end of the period of training, delegates will be aware of, and be able to implement or state:

  • all health , safety, welfare and environmental legislation which affects them during their daily work

  • new guidance and industry best practice

  • their duties and responsibilities with regards to health, safety, welfare and the environment

Assessment:

Assessment will be by an exam paper and the completion of core exercises and a case study. The examination demonstrates to external bodies that the certificate is only awarded to successful delegates following both and assessment and examination. Delegates are expected to be interactive during the course.

Exam paper:

The paper consists of 25 questions; 20 multiple choice questions and 5 short written question and answers. There will be 5 safety critical questions on each paper that must be answered correctly. This exam paper will be taken at the end of the course.

Module 3

  1. Site organisation

  2. Fire prevention and control. Dangerous substances

  3. Electrical safety

Qualifications/certification:

Certification for this course is valid for 5 years. To remain certified in this area, you will need to take a refresher course before the expiry date on your certificate, otherwise the full course will need to be retaken.

Meet Your Trainers

Matt has been part of the Logic team since 2008, progressing from his starting role as a technical administrator, to his current role. Matt comes from a multi-disciplined background, and is a strong and dedicated member of the Logic team. Matt is responsible for undertaking the majority of Logic Consult’s asbestos surveys and manages our extensive database.

 

Further career development has seen Matt complete his NEBOSH General Certificate and do Level 3 EATs qualification making Matt a valuable member of the Logic training team. Matt has just commenced his NVQ Level 5 in Occupational Health and Safety.
