- Identify the dangers associated with working on or near water
- Know the legal requirements relevant to such work
- Know the various safety precautions and arrangements that should be in place
- Be aware of the environmental implications of such work

The following programme elements are covered:

- The dangers associated with working on or near  water
- General precautions - housekeeping, lighting,  signage
- Environmental precautions-lighting, adverse  weather, pollution, fall prevention
- First-aid/emergency response/rescue equipment
- PPE
