Course aims

This course has been developed to provide delegates with an update of their knowledge of health and safety issues within the construction industry, in addition to a good understanding of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, incorporating the changes introduced by the 2007 Regulations.

This course is devoted entirely to the CDM Regulations and the roles and responsibilities of the Client, Designer, CDM Coordinator, Principal Contractor and Sub-Contractors, together with the contents of Health and Safety Plans and Files.

Course objectives

Upon completion of the course delegates should:


-    Have an improved appreciation of their company’s criminal and civil liabilities
-    Have a good awareness of health and safety risk management
-    Be able to understand and develop risk assessments
-    Be aware of the company’s liabilities regarding contractors
-    Identify other legislation relating to the construction process
-    Possess an improved knowledge of the legal requirements contained within the CDM Regulations
-    Have a better understanding of the problems faced by the various parties involved in the CDM process
-    Have an appreciation of the roles and responsibilities of Clients, CDM Coordinators, Designers, Principal Contactors, Contractors and Sub-Contractors
-    Be able to develop health and safety plans and files
-    Be able to assess the competence of contractors and other parties
-    General Health and Safety Law and Practices
-    Enforcement Issues
-    Safe Systems of Work and Method Statements
-    Working at Height
-    Background to the CDM Regulations
-    Where CDM Applies and Does Not Apply
-    Notification of CDM Projects
