Aims

To ensure that all delegates are aware of and understand the Chemistry of Fire, the cause and effect, the preventative control measures to take and how to deal with various types of fire using the correct fire extinguishers.

To provide delegates with the knowledge to understand the Management Responsibilities they will undertake. To impart the necessary knowledge to give an understanding of current legislation and enable delegates to produce emergency procedures, a workplace fire plan and to be able to carry out fire risk assessments and hazard identification.

Objectives

By actively participating in this course delegates will be able to:

- Understand the chemistry of fire.
- Understand what causes fire and the preventative control measures to take.
- Acquire knowledge on how to deal with various types of fires with no risk to personnel.
- Carry out a fire risk assessment.
- Show an understanding of the various fire extinguishers and their uses.
- Manage the implementation and monitoring for maintaining fire-fighting equipment.
- Produce emergency procedures and a fire plan and to ensure evacuation procedure is carried out safely.
- Carry out daily fire prevention checks to reduce the risk of fire.
- Use site security to minimise fire risks.
- Identify fire hazards.
- Understand fire legislation.
