Work is under way on the Executive Care Group scheme, which will stand on a site formerly occupied by St Alban’s RC Primary School. It should take 12 months to complete, the firm predicts.
The 80-bed care home is the first phase of the firm’s plans for a care village at the site. Also planned is extra care housing, assisted living units and retirement apartments.
Executive Care Group says the scheme will comprise “new style, high specification, five star homes.”
The site lies opposite St Alban’s Church on Yew Tree Avenue.
Paul Musgrave, managing director of Care Services for the Executive Care Group, said: “The model of care we are seeking to develop will be centred on the needs of those requiring care, their spouses and their families.The idea of the institutional approach to care has long since gone. With our developer partner, NorthStar Capital Projects, we are taking our five star model of care right across the UK.”
Executive Care Group plans to create 1,500 care home beds nationally over the next five years.
The first of the new five star homes are being developed in Redcar and Nunthorpe, as well as Newmarket, Dundee and Poole in Dorset. All schemes have planning consent and will start construction this year with Logic acting as CDM Co-ordinator on each project.
The group’s chief executive, Jennifer Houghton, said: “I am convinced the new homes under construction in 2009 will be among the best being built in the country.”
